I have been fascinated with my family history since I was a little girl. Once we were to be married, my husband and I dug right into Ancestry.com and started building out our trees as a couple. The stories we began to discover were fascinating, but it soon became clear there were lots of dark corners, mysterious unknowns, and too many dead ends. I decided to pursue genealogy more seriously, and recently started down the path of board certification. The work of a genealogist is not just to document the ancestry but also to be a storyteller. So this page is just for that – sharing what I learn in my practice.
The past can seem so dusty and musty – black and white. However, once we start to dig, gather together the stories, and bring what was once alive to the surface again, we begin to feel a connection to our past in a way that roots us. A connection to history in a way we never learned through textbooks. It isn’t always pretty. Sometimes it can be difficult, painful even, but we do not hide from it. Perhaps gathering these roots into the light we can uncover just why we are where we are, and who we are, here and now.
