Easter Bread

This recipe was given to me by Frances MILAZZO IRELAND, and it is a super fun activity at Easter with the kids. Try making little ones and eat them together on Easter morning. Refrigerate until you are ready to eat and reheat in the microwave – but remember to crack the shells with the back of a spoon first or they will explode!

3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 package dry yeast
2/3 cup milk
2 Tbsp butter
2 eggs, beaten
8 hard boiled eggs, dyed

Manual instructions:
Mix all ingredients except yeast. Make a well in the center.
Heat beaten eggs, milk and butter together but do not boil. Add yeast and dissolve. Pour liquid mixture in the well and gradually mix dry ingredients into wet. Knead, cover and let rise for 1 hour.
Knead again for 5 minutes. Cover and let rise for 1 more hour.
Knead again. Divide into 8 balls. Roll out and wrap around dyed hard-boiled eggs, making baskets.
Place on a greased cookie sheet. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Bread machine instructions:
Spray machine pan.
Heat beaten eggs, milk and butter together but do not boil. Add to machine pan. Add flour (use bread flour if you have it), sugar and salt. Make a small well in center and add yeast.
Turn machine on to dough cycle. Once it is done allow to rise 20 minutes with dyed hard-boiled eggs in the center “baskets” then bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
