Sauerkraut

This recipe is from the kitchen of Elma Mae MILLER IREY, passed down from her time growing up with very little, and raising her children during the Great Depression. It is very cost-effective and makes quite a bit of food. We like to make it around the holidays, as it takes up to 24-36 hours in the crock pot on low, and half the fun is the smell of the kraut cooking overnight.

2 small cans, or 1 large jar, sauerkraut
2 medium onions, sliced thin
2 packets Equal (pink packets)
1 pound boneless pork shoulder, cut into chunks

Add all ingredients into a crockpot and cook, covered, on low for 24-36 hours until everything is caramelized and combined. Stir and enjoy!
